MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

Full Membership​

Full membership status is open to those with the following qualifications from a recognised school:

  • Manipulative Therapy

  • Advanced Remedial Massage 

  • Remedial and Sports Massage

  • Remedial Massage

  • Swedish Massage

  • Physiotherapy

  • Sports Therapy

Other qualifications of similar standing will be considered by the Committee, on application.
 


Student Membership​

Student membership is open to those who are currently studying for one of the qualifications above, or similar.

Associate Membership​

Associate membership is open to those interested in the work of the association and has an aligned qualification, either within the medical profession, complementary therapies or is working with those with neurological disorders.​

In all cases, applicants must satisfy the Committee of their eligibility for membership. â€‹

In addition, members must abide by the code of ethics and professional conduct of the Association.

Professional conduct and insurance​

Ethics and conduct: Maintain professional and ethical standards, including honesty, integrity, and adherence to the AMTS' Code of Ethics and practice standards.

Professional indemnity insurance must be maintained at all times for professional practising members.

Complaints and disciplinary: Members are subject to the AMTS' disciplinary and complaints procedures.

First Aid​

A valid First Aid certificate is mandatory.  It must be face-to-face (in-person) training; online courses are not accepted and the training must be updated every three years.  Emergency First Aid, Sports First Aid, or First Aid at Work course that is at least four hours long is acceptable.

Continued Professional Development (CPD)

​In line with GCMT requirements a minimum of 20 hours of CPD must be completed each year to maintain membership; made up of 12 formal CPD and 8 hours informal.  This is also required by most insurance companies, check you meet your policy requirement.

Formal CPD is considered that which is run by a formal and accredited institution such as AMTS.  Informal CPD is any study or professional development you conduct in your own time i.e. reading journal articles and skill development. CPD activities should be relevant to current or future practice, a mix of learning activities, and intended to benefit your practice and clients.

Members must keep a continuous and accurate record of their CPD activities, including a reflection on the learning gained, seeing this record may be requested by AMTS.

It is possible to carry forward CPD hours for up to three years where larger qualifications have been achieved.
