JOINT DIPLOMA IN SWEDISH MASSAGE AND REMEDIAL AND SPORTS MASSAGE
This course enables students with no previous experience to attain the Diploma in Remedial and Sports Massage. Students will commence training by completing the syllabus for the Diploma in Swedish Massage. They will then advance to the Remedial and Sports module. The Diploma in Swedish Massage enables the student to safely and effectively administer therapeutic massage both within the clinical and sporting environment. Practical tools are given to treat these conditions, helping the student to reduce pain, promote healing and restore balance within the musculoskeletal system.

The Swedish Massage module enables the student to safely and effectively administer therapeutic massage both within the clinical and sporting environment. Practical tools are given to treat these conditions, helping the student to reduce pain, promote healing and restore balance within the musculoskeletal system.
There is no academic entry requirement, but students must be physically able to perform massage.
Duration of Swedish Module
The Swedish Massage Module will run over nine months with a one day session approximately once a month. Total contact hours will be a minimum of 80 hours with approximately 230 hours of home study.
Remedial and Sports Massage Module
In depth anatomy and physiology, assessment and treatment of:
Active, passive and resisted assessment of joints
Myofascial release, proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation. Neuromuscular techniques, muscle energy techniques, trigger point therapy and mobilisation techniques
Pre and post event massage
Duration of Remedial and Sports Module
The Remedial and Sports Module will commence in early November 2020 and will run once a month for 9 months, usually on the first weekend of the month.
The course will be run at West Linton, off the A702, 20 minutes south of the Edinburgh City Bypass.
For those requiring accommodation there are 2 options: Peggyslea and Patieshill Bed and Breakfasts. Patieshill is within easy walking distance of the Hall and is the cheaper of the two, whilst Peggyslea is a bit more spacious, but more expensive and about a mile away.
Method of Study
The Swedish Massage Module will be run over nine months. The sessions will cover both the practical and theoretical elements of the course. This learning will be supplemented by home study between sessions, which will include assignments, practice of techniques and case studies.
The Remedial and Sports Module will cover both the practical and theoretical elements of the course. This learning will be supplemented by approximately 34 hours of home study each month which will include assignments, practice of techniques and case studies. Students will be encouraged to form small study groups to allow practice of practical techniques between weekends.
Award of the Diploma in Swedish Massage and the Diploma in Remedial and Sports Massage will based on:
Continuous assessment throughout the course, based on performance at each session, together with home study assignments and case studies.
Final assessments, which will include written, oral and practical examinations.
On successful completion of the first module, students will be awarded a Diploma in Swedish Massage, which meets the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT) Swedish Massage Curriculum.
On successful completion of the course, students will be awarded a Diploma in Remedial and Sports Massage, which meets the General Council for Massage Therapies (GCMT) Remedial Massage Curriculum.
The Course is accredited by the National Association of Massage and Manipulative Therapists.
On successful completion of the course students will be eligible to apply for the Advanced Remedial Massage Course.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
On completion of the course opportunities will be provided for graduates to gain their statutory 20 hours CPD required to meet GCMT and CHNC guidelines.
